Special Interest Groups on Seabrook

On Seabrook Island, we value community. We love that we know our neighbors and have so many opportunities to interact with the people around us. Due to the fact that the community aspect is such a big part of life on Seabrook, we have more than 35 active special interest groups and we welcome the addition of more! Seabrook Island Artist Guild

This special interest group has more than 80 active members and it is dedicated to “stimulat[ing] the creativity of its membership by providing them with opportunities to learn, exhibit their art and network with other artists.” Guild members participate in outreach and exhibits that help spread the word about local artistic talent, and encourage others to get involved in the arts.

DIRT Genealogy

Digging into Roots Together (DIRT) Genealogy has monthly meetings to discuss how best to conduct genealogy research. Recent topics include how to develop a research question and research plan, how to use Microsoft Excel for genealogy research, and how to understand mitochondrial DNA and Y-DNA.

Seabrook Island Birders

This special interest group identifies birds around Seabrook Island. Members go on bird walks, give their input on proposed ordinances that would affect our wildlife, and volunteers to monitor bird programs in place around the island.

Seabrook Island Grief Support Group

The members of the Seabrook Island Grief Support Group include but are not limited to those who have lost a spouse or a child. Both Seabrook residents and non-residents are welcome to attend, provided they contact Mary Fleck at marybfleck@gmail.com in advance.

Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island

This special interest group plans events to support children attending local schools. Most recently, they planned a chili cookoff at the Bohicket Marina that benefited the children at Mt. Zion, Angel Oak, Frierson, Haut Gap, and St. Johns.
