Pickleball on the rise.
Pickleball is a combination of Ping-Pong, tennis and badminton and can be played with two or four players. It’s played on a badminton-size court using a paddle and a Wiffle ball.
It’s one of the fastest growing sports in America. Everywhere you turn, more and more people—young and old alike—are playing pickleball. Whether getting involved for a great cardio workout, to stay in shape, or to compete against others in skill-level tournaments and groups, the game can help you stay active and healthy while providing endless hours of social entertainment, fun and enjoyment.
The Seabrook Island Pickleball program offers a range of activities for all levels and ages of players. Drop-in sessions are offered weekly and are a great way to meet other people looking to play. Individual court times may be reserved through the Pro-Shop for 90-minute time slots. All players must check in through the Pro Shop prior to play either in-person or by phone: 843.768.7543.
Demo and rental paddles are available in the Pro Shop. Paddles and accessories are also in stock for those who would like to purchase their own.
*There is no instruction during Drop-in play.

The Alan Fleming Senior Open Clay Court State Championship Tournament
The Alan Fleming Tournament was established in 1981 under the leadership of Seabrook Island resident Alan Fleming, along with his wife, Sally. Before moving to Seabrook, Alan was a nationally ranked tennis player whose resume included matches at Forest Hills, the precursor to the U.S. Open. Alan was often ranked #1 in his age group in both New Jersey and South Carolina. He was a New Jersey State Champion and a National Father-Son Champion with his son, Peter, who went on to become the Seabrook Island Club’s touring pro in the early 80s. Peter then made tennis history when he teamed with doubles’ partner, John McEnroe. Together, they won more than 50 doubles titles including four at Wimbledon and three at the U.S. Open.
The tournament, originally called the Seabrook Island Senior Tennis Tournament, ran continuously until Hurricane Hugo forced a two-year hiatus in 1989. The tournament was renamed in Alan’s honor after his death in 1997. Participation in the tournament has grown over the years to host more than 250 players from all over the Southeast and beyond. In 2007, the tournament received its current designation as a South Carolina Level 1 State Championship event and a Southern section 200-point Tournament—one of only four events at this prestigious level in a nine-state region. The 2015 National Championship Level 1 “Gold Ball” mixed event brought a new level of competition and national exposure to the Seabrook Island Racquet Club. The tournament, which was recently named “South Carolina Adult Tournament of The Year,” offers more than 44 events, including singles, doubles and mixed doubles for men and women ages 35 to 80.
